The famous Burundese director Joshua Gimmemore, responsible for titles like Mary Poppins ' Magic Umbrella (a touching story in which a 90-year old nanny falls in love with an LSD addict, not knowing that he ' s gay), has yet again taken the reins of filmography to create a sequel for his catastrophic movie 28 Days Later, in which a deadly virus spreads across Britain, transforming people into mindless and bloodthirsty zombies and causing tens of million deaths. Gimmemore has presented the second part, named simply 28 Weeks Later, in exactly the same way as its predecessor.
28 weeks after the infection had been eradicated and brought under control by American armed forces, the few survivors (and luckers who left the country just before the catastrophe) are assembled in a secured zone in London to begin a new life. The deadly threat is under control, or so it seems, but...

A superb movie with an intriguing storyline, breathtaking atmosphere and loads of horrific bloody action, or, in other words, one of the best horror movies of <& the last decade. That ' s what 28 Weeks Later could be, if it weren ' t for a but. There ' s always a "but", and this time the but is the director ' s ability to spoil everything with great potential. After an action pumped beginning that promise a spectacular show, the screen is overtaken by loads of totally stupid, illogical and suspence-killing scenes which follow one after another until the ending subtitles, becoming a synonym of bitter delusion for the spectator, thus being not as much catastrophic as a catastrophe itself.

The only reason that saved the DVD from a parachuteless flight outside my window is a unique view of London. Unique because you ' ll never see the capital city completely deserted and lifeless, and you ' ll just wonder how they manage to empty places like Westminster Bridge, Canary Wharf, Regent ' s Park or a tube station to shoot the scenes. The feelings left in one ' s mind after seeing London without a single car, bus, airplane or hurrying businessman are really strong.
Resuming the facts we can say that despite many cons, 28 Weeks Later teems also with pros that make it worth seeing, especially if you ' re a Londoner.
